Artegiovane "Torino, Milano incontrano... l'Arte" Award

The Award started off in 1997 with the name of “Torino Incontra…l’Arte” (Turin Meets Art N.d.T.), initially promoted by Torino Incontra, Fondazione CRT and Compagnia di San Paolo, for the temporary installation of Young Artists’ works in some of Turin’s “Doors” (Teatro Regio, Airport of Caselle, Turin’s Town Hall, Sermig, Rectorship of the University, Palazzo Nuovo etc): the works have since been donated or given on a free loan to the GAM (Modern Art Gallery N.d.T.).

In 2002, thanks to the collaboration of the GTT (Turin’s Public transport company N.d.T.) and of Turin Chamber of Commerce, the installation of the work “Round Blur” by the Roman Collective Nicole fvr/2A+ at the southern end of streetcar Line 4 (crossing the city from north to south) in Corso Unione Sovietica from Strada del Drosso became permanent: note that the work was featured in a long 8-page article of Domus magazine and has been nominated in a number of important international awards.

Since 2004, in the context of the Art SynToMi Project, the Artegiovane Award has become the Artegiovane “Torino, Milano Incontrano l’Arte” Award (Turin, Milan Meet Art Award N.d.T.). At its second edition it already had a unified International Jury, the latest chaired by Ida Gianelli (Director of the Castello di Rivoli Museum of Contemporary Arts), which selected two permanent works: Liliana Moro’s, winner in Turin in 2005, will probably be finalized in November 2007 in Corso Giulio Cesare (round terrace, former Iveco at the end of To-Mi Highway), whereas Alice Guareschi and Margherita Morgantin’s, winners in Milan, will be installed in Palazzo dei Giureconsulti, Representative Office of Milan Chamber of Commerce.

Ettore Favini won the 2006 edition, with the project “Verdecuratoda”, providing for the installation of the chosen work in Turin at the northern end of streetcar Line 4 at the Falchera neighborhood. In Milan the winning project was Massimo Grimaldi’s “Emergency’s “Salam” Center for Cardiac Surgery of Karthoum”.

Favini’s work, which will be installed in the Spring of 2008, provides for the planting of 48 apple orchards of the six rarest and most precious Piedmont apple kinds watered and lighted using clean energy produced by a photovoltaic arch.
